Hi there…

Devi Tiemessen’s life started with adventure. She was born on the sailing yacht Alondra in Thailand while her parents were sailing around the world and living on their boat.

When Devi was just 2 years old, her parents decided to sail back to the Mediterranean. They traveled an incredible route from Thailand to Turkey, passing places like the Maldives, India, Oman, Yemen, Eritrea, Sudan, Egypt, and Cyprus before finally arriving in Turkey. By the time they settled on land, Devi had already sailed more miles than most captains in the Mediterranean!

Devi doesn’t remember much from these early adventures, but she grew up hearing amazing stories from her parents and looking through photos of their journey. These experiences shaped who she is today: curious, social, empathetic, adventurous, responsible, brave, sporty, and easygoing.

After moving to land, Devi started a more “normal” childhood life. She started going to a Turkish kindergarten and at moment following Lyceum in Bodrum. Today, she speaks fluent Turkish, Dutch, and English. As any teenager she enjoy spending time with her friends (which she has a lot).

The opportunity to join School at Sea feels like coming full circle for Devi. Although she doesn’t remember much from her early years at sea, this program is a chance to reconnect with the adventurous life she started as a baby. That’s why this opportunity excites her so much—it feels like returning to her roots and continuing the journey she began on Alondra.
